Getting to Cambria without Driving

You don't need a car at all. While it would not be truthful to say it's easy to get to us without driving, it is quite possible and well worth the effort.  Once in Cambria, we have bicycles available for easy rides around town, along Moonstone Beach, and even to lovely San Simeon Bay.

If you are already staying at a hostel in LA or San Francisco, ask around to see if anyone is driving north or south along the coast. If not, read on...

Getting to San Luis Obispo by train or bus:

Consider taking an Amtrak train. Trains run 3-4 times per day from L.A. and once per day from San Francisco to San Luis Obispo, about 35 miles south of Cambria. The ride takes 5-6 hours from either L.A. or San Francisco. See Amtrak.com for schedules.

You can take bicycles on Amtrak and local bus connections. The bus stop for buses departing to Cambria is about a ten-minute walk from the train station. With bags, you'll want to catch a local transfer bus to the Government Center, to catch Bus #12 to Morro Bay and #15 to Cambria.  See more info on this below.

Also check the Greyhound bus schedules that will be similarly priced and slightly faster (though not as scenic as the train ride along the coast!). Here's a tip: Greyhound might be surprisingly more convenient for North Hollywood departures in LA, or from South of San Francisco (San Jose).

Check the schedule details for the specific route and arrival location in San Luis Obispo. The Greyhound buses used to use the train station, but the station location for greyhound keep changing so please refer to their website.

Local bus information to Cambria:

See regional bus schedules at Google.com/transit or www.slorta.org. Buses do not run very late in the evening to or from Cambria. If you arrive late, or need to be in San Luis Obispo for an early departure, consider a night at Hostel Obispo -it's a block away from the train station.
